New 8-User Outdoor Gym Opens as part of Harmony Garden for Pupil Health and Wellbeing.
At George Eliot Academy Secondary School, the senior leadership team believes that education should be character-forming and, in order to develop pupils’ character, they strive to offer a wide range of enrichment activities.
As part of this strategy, supported by the PTA and local businesses, the school commissioned a new ‘Harmony Garden’ and the installation of an innovative, Fresh Air Fitness outdoor gym for all of the pupil population to benefit from and enjoy.
Every school has unique grounds and the shape and size of the usable area for an outdoor gym installation has its own considerations.
In the case of George Eliot Academy Secondary School, a covered area with glass canopy was their preferred location.
In order to support the school, the installation team offered advice on the best choice of equipment, factoring in the required spacing around the equipment to allow safe and effective use.
Consultation is a vital part of any end-to-end service because it creates the ideal opportunity to meet the school team, anticipate potential challenges, and collaboratively create the best possible solution.
The school chose a selection of different equipment to provide a whole-body workout experience. Now their new outdoor gym facility is established, the school community can enjoy all of the many benefits of natural light and fresh air combined with exercise.
For young people in an educational setting, access to exercise supports learning in several ways including boosting memory and cognitive function plus the release of neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin that enhance mood, motivation and focus, all of which are key ingredients for effective learning.
The school’s chosen equipment was as follows:
• Seated Leg Press – develops strength in the leg muscles
• Elliptical Cross Trainer – cardiovascular exercise for the whole body
• Double Sit Up Benches – core strength focus
• Bike – seated, low impact, cardiovascular exercise
• Double Rower – targets the legs, core and upper body and gentle on the joints
The new outdoor gym was installed amidst a buzz of excitement. Officially launched by the local mayor, the excitement of this event was even captured and covered by the Nuneaton News.
“This was a fantastic occasion to celebrate the opening of our new garden and outdoor gym area. We are so pleased to have been able to welcome the Mayor, as well as representatives from local businesses and our PTA.
