The Fresh Air Fitness 15-User Outdoor Gym at Alumwell Primary boosts active play and exercise.
At Alumwell Junior School, the senior leadership team recognised the impact that successful unstructured time has on pupil wellbeing.
Part of the Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL) Primary Programme, Alumwell belongs to a ‘mentor-supported’ school improvement programme.
OPAL addresses all of the areas schools must plan for if they want to strategically and sustainably improve the quality of their play opportunities.
As part of its mission and vision, the school reached out to Fresh Air Fitness to work with them on consultation, equipment selection, layout and installation of a brand new, child-sized, range of outdoor gym equipment.
The school enjoys a beautiful campus and playing field but, in areas, the ground is sloping or uneven.
As part of our personalised consultation process, the Fresh Air Fitness team visited the school.
Consultation is such a key part to our service, because it is the perfect opportunity to meet the school team, anticipate challenges and collectively put together the best solution.
By visiting the school, our team was able to review the whole area, and make conclusions on suitability of location for installation, but also take into account how easy it would be to supervise the equipment and how accessible it would be for informal use.
The perfect spot to install the outdoor gym was established and with our recommendations and discussions, the school decided that the 15-User Primary School Bumper Package best met their requirements.
The Bumper Package, our most sought-after outdoor gym bundle, is designed specifically for children in Key Stages 1 & 2, and it includes our 6 most popular products, allowing 15 children to exercise at once.
The equipment is as follows:

It was important to the school that the outdoor gym be installed in term time, so their Year 6 leavers could have some usage and enjoy the new equipment before moving onto the next stage of their education.
With our flexible installation process, we were able to put stringent safety measures in place and install the outdoor gym equipment conveniently around the school day.
