Following the removal of end-of-life equipment and the feedback from their 2024 residents’ survey, Sunningdale Parish Council wanted to install a state-of-the-art outdoor gym at Broomhall Lane Recreation Ground.
Sunningdale Parish Council wanted to breathe new life into their flagship recreation ground at Broomhall Lane. With outdated equipment removed, they set out to create a modern, inclusive space that would inspire the whole community to get active.
Fresh Air Fitness was appointed and the project kicked off with an on-site consultation and site assessment, followed by the development of tailored plans designed to meet the needs of the local community — delivered as part of our comprehensive, end-to-end service.
As a hub of the community, the chosen equipment needed to offer all fitness abilities something to enjoy and cover the main four exercise types: from cardio and strength to flexibility and balance.
Wheelchair access was very important and accessible surfacing that connected the outdoor gym to the rest of the area was going to be a key consideration.
The Council worked with Fresh Air Fitness, who recommended the installation of the award- winning Big Rig as the centrepiece to the solution, with an additional three cardio pieces of equipment.
With a fast project turnaround of 8 weeks from order to delivery, our professional team provided a full service including groundworks, a compacted stone base, and a rubber mulch surfacing giving it an all-weather finish.
The team also erected a bespoke compliance sign, under the provision of BS:EN16630. BS EN 16630 is a European Standard that specifies safety requirements for permanently installed outdoor fitness equipment.
The council held a tremendously successful launch day supported by live demonstrations from the Fresh Air Fitness team on how to use and enjoy the equipment.

They even provided a free compliance sign to meet the BS:EN16630 outdoor gym standard.
