Fresh Air Fitness outdoor gym installation adds value to the Caistor site, giving residents and visiting students a welcoming outdoor space, supporting physical health, confidence and social connection.
In 2024, the Rock Foundation, a charity set up to support young people and adults with learning disabilities, secured £20,000 National Lottery funding to enhance its Caistor site.
The Caistor site was formerly known as Top Farm and sits on ten acres of land, which is part of the Lincolnshire Wolds.
Extensive renovations have been made to the Grade Two listed farmhouse and nearby buildings, which provide safe and secure supported living for up to 12 residents with learning disabilities, as well as day care services that many additional students attend.
To support the health and wellbeing of residents and students, part of the National Lottery funding was invested in some exciting new Fresh Air Fitness outdoor gym equipment!
The Rock Foundation was seeking an accessible, safe and therapeutic outdoor space that would support gentle yet effective physical activity, promote independence and offer an experience within a community-based environment.
Alongside the thriving pre-existing community gardens and tea rooms, the foundation looked to install brand new outdoor gym equipment suitable for all of its residents and visiting students.
It had to be easy to use, fun and provide an opportunity to socialise together in a safe and engaged environment.
The Rock Foundation selected the following outdoor gym equipment:
• Air Skier - an excellent cardio workout, as well as building strength, flexibility, balance and coordination
• Double Air Walker- one or two people can use the equipment at a time setting their own pace, choosing a wide walk, stretching legs and developing flexibility in the hip joints or a shorter faster pace to build cardio strength
• Double Cross Country Skier- works all major muscle groups and builds stamina, balance and coordination, solo or as a pair!
• Accessible Arm and Pedal Bike – ideal for use in a wheelchair – gentle impact cardiovascular exercise
The equipment was fitted with grass mats to create a weatherproof year-round surface whilst allowing the grass to grow (and be mown!) for a natural looking finish.
The installation of Fresh Air Fitness equipment has added real value to the Caistor site, giving residents and visiting students a welcoming outdoor space that supports physical health, confidence and social connection.
With accessible designs, gentle exercise options and equipment that encourages people to move at their own pace, the new gym area now complements the wider community environment already thriving at the Rock Foundation.
At Fresh Air Fitness, we have installed over 4500 outdoor gyms nationwide.
Our gyms can be found in local parks, green spaces, next to community centres, along trim trails and beside children’s playgrounds.
