Promoting the health and wellbeing of their employees
Tesco Bank has several sites across the UK. Their site in Scotland wanted to explore opportunities to promote and support their employees’ health and wellbeing. They wanted to offer their employees a fitness facility.
Tesco approached Fresh Air Fitness for the right solution. They saw the benefits of offering their staff a place to workout onsite and an outdoor gym could meet these requirements. Not only would their employees be able to gain the obvious physical and mental health benefits of using a gym regularly, they’d also enjoy the social aspect of using an outdoor gym, encouraging team building and building staff morale. In addition, Tesco Bank would benefit from a healthier, fitter and happier workforce, that would return to work refreshed and refocused after a workout during their working day. An outdoor gym would also make better use of outdoor space, the equipment would be low maintenance and negate the need to use critical office space.
To ensure this facility was a success, the outdoor gym needed to be suitable for all employees to use, beginners to regular gym goers and it needed to provide a variety to keep motivation high.
Fresh Air Fitness worked closely with the customer and based on this provided three different options for staff to consider. The chosen solution was a 6-piece gym, offering 10 user stations, allowing 10 members of staff to use the gym at the same time.
A mixture of two user pieces, encouraging social interaction whilst being active, and single user pieces were chosen for those who simply wanted to make the most of their breaktime to meet their personal goals.
Four of the pieces were all body cardio pieces, including popular pieces like the double air walker and elliptical cross trainer, supplemented by two pieces aimed at improving upper and lower body strength. The equipment was supplemented with grass matt surfacing around each piece of equipment, to protect the grass surface from becoming worn in high use areas.
The gym has been a great success. It has been well used and very much reflects the increasing focus on how companies can assist with the physical and mental health and wellbeing of their employees.
