Brixworth Parish Council adopted a Green Framework to support its climate action goals. As part of this initiative, and through the efforts of the Brixworth Climate Action Group (BCAG), they put together a plan to redevelop Spratton Road Recreation Park into a vibrant Wellbeing Park.
The vision for the site included an exciting new outdoor gym.
Whilst the Council provided the core funding, to further enhance the facilities a CrowdFund was set up to welcome donations from the community who were incredibly generous and warmly welcomed the local initiative.
Once the funding phase was complete, the council selected Fresh Air Fitness as their expert outdoor gym provider.
The challenge was to install an outdoor gym with accessibility for all users, including those with disabilities, and to select equipment which suited different fitness levels.
The gym had to be durable and weather resistant to ensure long term use with minimal upkeep.
Environmental impact had to be considered, mitigating damage to local ecosystems and providing a seamless natural finish in terms of colourway and surfacing.
The outdoor gym equipment had to be free for the local community to use year round.
Brixworth Parish Council selected Fresh Air Fitness for our robust and sustainable outdoor gym equipment designed in a colourway that blends with its natural surroundings. For variety the council opted for a selection of products from both the Strength and Cardio ranges, this 7 Piece Outdoor Gym, suitable for 12 users at once, included the following equipment:
• Combi
• Air Skier
• The Rider
• Double Air Walker
• Seated Leg Press
• Leg Lift Station
• Accessible Arm & Pedal Bike
To enhance accessibility, they included the Accessible Arm and Pedal Bike to ensure that all members of the community have access to exercise for free.
The installation was completed with ‘mowable’ grass matting which creates a slip free surface beneath, whilst allowing the grass to grow through naturally and actually be mown when required.
Every piece of equipment had the added bonus of an instruction panel with instructions for use and a basic workout suggestion.
