The Brain and Spinal Injury Clinic in Salford (B.A.S.I.C), is a charity that supports people who have suffered a brain or spinal injury with high-quality rehabilitation and they wanted to enhance their established rehabilitation offering by introducing a range of state of the art outdoor gym equipment from Fresh Air Fitness.
The new outdoor gym needed to provide a combination of upper and lower body, gentle exercise options with pieces suitable for wheelchair use. As well as being enjoyable to use, the equipment needed to be safe and easy to operate by patients on their recovery journey.
To ensure correct use, each piece required hard wearing permanent signage with clear instructions. Most importantly, the Fresh Air Fitness outdoor gym facility needed a creative solution for placement as the available space was limited.
The outdoor gym equipment chosen included a Chest Press and Pull Down Challenger in one zone alongside a second Chest Press and Pull Down Challenger adapted specifically for wheelchair use.
Known as ‘the Combo’, the back-to-back seats of this piece of dual-use equipment allows two people to workout at once.
Users can exercise the chest muscles, shoulder muscles and arms muscles on one side on the Chest Press side and the Lats and Arms on the Pull Down Challenger side.
The second exercise zone included an Arm and Pedal Bike and Arm and Pedal Bike specially designed for wheelchair use. The Arm and Pedal Bike is excellent for improving flexibility, core strength and cardio fitness.
