Alfold Parish Council, based in Surrey, commissioned Fresh Air Fitness to create a brand-new outdoor gym zone at Alfold Recreation Ground which would be free for the whole community to use all year round.
A location was chosen near to the Village Hall, and this community project involved Cllr Martin Richardson, as part of an exciting plan to offer residents all-weather, free to use, fitness equipment for exercise outdoors.
At Fresh Air Fitness, we offer a free, personalised consultation process and for Alfold Parish Council, our team met with the parish council representative on-site and discussed their specific needs.
Our free consultation is essential when planning outdoor gym equipment because it ensures the final solution truly meets our client’s goals. It specifically allows us to understand who the gym is for, how it will be used, and what outcomes need to be achieved. Our consultation also helps identify the most suitable equipment from our wide range, based on who the outdoor gym will be used by, such as activating seniors or giving young people a place to exercise for free.
At this initial stage, we were able to ask about any protected trees, access constraints, ground conditions, and identify whether the area is sloped.
The challenge of this exciting outdoor gym project was not only providing a range of outdoor gym equipment but also building up sloping ground, completing full groundworks and landscaping, and adding a jogging track!
Alfold Parish Council decided to go for our award-winning Big Rig as well as a selection of standalone pieces in order to provide the community with a whole-body workout.
In addition to installation day and the agreed groundworks and jogging track, the surrounding area was seeded and will soon be beautifully green, providing the perfect setting for residents to get active outdoors.
To launch the outdoor gym, we supported the parish council with a FREE training session on how to use the equipment effectively and even gave some workout ideas. Every piece of equipment comes with signage that includes instructions for use, for anyone who wants to use the outdoor gym but wasn’t able to make the launch demonstration.
