Ab Kettleby Primary School's Outdoor Gym Transformation Project

The Background

Physical activity is an important part of the schools offering, with many activities and clubs running throughout the year. However, the children at Ab Kettleby have been unable to use an old trim trail located in a large area of their field. The school wanted to promote health and wellbeing further and make use of this fantastic space they had. Having secured the Government's PE and Sport Premium Funding they decided to install an outdoor gym from our children's range, specifically designed for KS1 and KS2 pupils

Our Solution

Once the area had been surveyed, the old wooden trim trail was removed and, combined with an unused grass area, a space was created for the new outdoor gym equipment. The school chose to add a rubber mulch surfacing, a natural looking rubber safety surface that would ensure the gym could be used all year round. The mulch was laid on a stone base, which provides a solid, permeable foundation and ensures that the mulch surface will last longer.

The Equipment included, a Double Cross-Country Skier, Cardio Combi, Rider, Arm and Pedal Bike, T’ai Chi Spinners, Hip Twister, Seated Leg Press and an Air Skier.

The Result

With the support of Government funding and the team at Fresh Air Fitness, the primary school now have the outdoor space they dreamed of. The space has been completely transformed and the children can use the space all year round, for PE lessons and general play time. The equipment was carefully selected to provide a variety of physical benefits, from cardio and muscular strength, to flexibility. Most pieces offer 2 or more user stations, making it a highly sociable and fun environment to exercise in.
