According to a report released by Public Health England 78% of the adult population have a heart age which is greater than their actual age, which means that they are at a greater risk of a premature death or of being very disabled in later life from either stroke or heart disease. The main indicator of heart age is blood pressure and the main causes of high blood pressure are diet, smoking and lack of exercise. Over 20million adults in the UK do not achieve the minimum amount of weekly exercise as recommended by the Chief Medical Office, which is 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week. This alone is estimated to cost the NHS £1.2billion per year in preventable medical interventions.
