As well as being an outdoor gym provider to many schools, colleges and parks in the local area, Fresh Air Fitness has designed and installed over 2000 outdoor gyms nationwide since its inception in 2007.

In order to be considered for this award, Fresh Air Fitness was asked to demonstrate the relationship between company innovation and achieving targets. We focused on the Big Rig.

The Big Rig is innovative because it provides the benefits of group exercise, with 16 user stations, for beginners through to advanced users. In one product, we have a solution which provides exercise options for the whole community, from the youth all the way through to seniors.

The Big Rig is a one of a kind in the UK marketplace and offers a unique mix of dynamic and static pieces, which address all key areas of fitness from strength and cardiovascular to balance and flexibility. The piece is also very space efficient and can be installed in a 10 metre by 10 metre space.

And we continue to innovate. In terms of service offerings, we have introduced a mobile app on both the Google Play and Apple Store platforms. Our YouTube channel has been extended to over 50 videos to showcase our products as well as offering online support to end users. Furthermore, our online animations to support our children’s range is a first for the market. From children to teachers and lunchtime supervisors to PE staff, our videos show how to get the most benefit from the equipment, extolling its physical benefits as well as emphasising health and safety considerations.

Paul Scott, Enterprise M3 Growth Champion, presented the award and said “Through their development of the Big Rig, Fresh Air Fitness have shown that their innovation has provided the benefits of group exercise alongside a doubling in size of the company’s revenue from a standing start.

“The feedback on the Big Rig, the number of users that it caters for and the value for money it brings has been positively received by the councils, community groups and educational organisations. They have made a positive difference to the wellbeing of the people in the world that we live in.”

Commenting on the win, Tom Willock, Managing Director, Fresh Air Fitness said “We thank Surrey Heath Borough Council for awarding us the prize of business innovation and our committed staff who have been the driving force behind our market leading business. Our flagship product, the Big Rig, can be found in parks and schools across the UK and investment in innovation has been one of the foundations on which Fresh Air Fitness has been built and it will continue to play a major part in our plans going forward.
